Lacrosse taken down by Westfield in MASCAC action 16-1

Westfield, MA- The Westfield State Lacrosse team showed why they are unbeaten in MASCAC play as the shut down the MCLA attack in cruising to a 16-1 MASCAC victory over the Trailblazers.  The Owls improve to 11-4 overall and unblemished in league play at 6-0 as they head into a showdown with Bridgewater State on Saturday for the regular season title.  

The Trailblazers drop to 3-10 and are 0-6 in the conference.

The Owls had a balanced attack as six players recorded two goals.  The Owls scored the first five goals in the opening four minutes for a quick 5-0 advantage.  MCLA would get their lone marker from Mackenzie Cutler cutting it to 5-1, however the Owls would take it to MCLA the rest of the half outscoring the Trailblazers 9-0.  Westfield held a commanding 14-1 lead at halftime.

Neither team generated much offense in the second half as it was running time.

Alanah Melanson earned the win in goal as she played the first 50 plus minutes.  Marissa Nimeskern, Alexa Tonelli, Elizabeth Navoni, Hayley Mate, Maddie Bartkus, and Sam Donahue each tallied two goals for the Owls.  Westfield outshot MCLA 26-2 on the night and held a 17-2 edge in draw controls.

Zoe Elwell collected five saves in goal for MCLA but absorbed the loss.

The Trailblazers play the season finale this Friday at Framingham State with a 7pm draw.
