Lacrosse falls at home to Salem State

North Adams, MA- The visiting Salem State University women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 14-1 halftime lead and never looked back as they cruised past the MCLA Trailblazers 19-5 tonight at Shewcraft Field.  Salem State improves to 2-9 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC.  The Trailblazers fall to 1-5 overall and are 0-3 in conference play.

Chelsea and Courtney Smith each tallied six goals for the Vikings.  Rose Sullivan added three goals and collected four assists in the win.

In the opening half, Salem State scored the first eight goals to take control.  Five different Vikings tallied goals during the opening surge.  After MCLA finally got on the board on Kim Granito's marker, the Vikings would score the final six goals of the half. 

Chelsea Smith scored 5 first half goals while Courtney Smith added 4.  The Vikings outshot MCLA 28-3 in the half and controlled possession.

The Vikings extended the lead in the second half as the lead grew to 18-2.  MCLA finally showed some signs late in the half, however the outcome was already decided.

Kim Granito ended with a pair of goals and two assists.  Rachel Green added a pair of goals for MCLA.  Zoe Elwell took the loss in goal amassing 7 saves.

Gianna DeNisco earned the win in goal for Salem playing the first half.
