Women's Lacrosse bested at Mass. Maritime

Buzzards Bay, MA- Mass. Maritime's Casey Sullivan collected nine goals while teammate Stephanie Hunt added five goals and six assists to lead the hosts past visiting MCLA 18-4 tonight at Clean Harbors Stadium.  The Buccaneers improve to 6-7 overall and are 1-4 in the league.  The Trailblazers drop their seventh straight contest as they're now 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the league.

MCLA got on the board first when Kim Granito tallied just one minute into the contest.  MMA would respond with seven unanswered markers to take a 7-1 lead.  Sullivan and Hunt combined for five goals during the key first half spurt.  

Mackenzie Cutler would net the first of her three goals to cut the lead to 7-2, but the Bucs would respond by outscoring MCLA 5-1 for the remainder of the half to take a commanding 10-3 lead into halftime.

MMA would add four more tallies early in the second half as Hunt and Sullivan once again were tough to stop.  The Bucs lead was 16-3 before Cutler's third goal made it 16-4.  MCLA would get no closer the rest of the way.

MMA outshot MCLA 39-9 on the evening and scooped up 23 groundballs compared to just 11 for the Trailblazers.  

Sullivan collected her nine goals on 13 shots.  She added one assist and two groundballs.  Hunt filled the stat sheet with five goals on just 7 shots.  She collected the six assists and added 6 groundballs.  Anna Deely added three goals for MMA.

Mikayla Correia earned the win notching one save on the evening.

Cutler's three goals paced MCLA while Zoe Elwell stopped 14 shots in the contest.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Westfield State at 6pm.
