Lacrosse blanked by Owls

North Adams, MA- The visiting Westfield State University women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 14-0 first half lead and never looked back as they defeated the MCLA Trailblazers 15-0 this evening at Shewcraft Field.  The Owls improve to 14-2 and remain unbeaten in conference play at 6-0 heading into Saturday's showdown with Bridgewater State, a match that will decide the MASCAC regular season title.

MCLA drops their eighth straight contest as they are now 1-8 overall and 0-6 in the MASCAC.

Ten different Owls tallied goals in the first half of play.  Rachel Testa started the scoring just 46 seconds into play.  Haley Mate added another marker at the 26:34 mark and when Sam Donohoe scored, it was quickly 3-0.  Owl leading scorer Sydney Lambert notched her team leading 38th goal at the 20:18 mark and Brooke Williams scored just 43 seconds later. 

Westfield continued the offensive prowess as Hunter Zackaricz, Samantha Coyle, Elizabeth Navoni, Maddie Bartkus, and Hayley Rodriguez added goals in the half.  The Owls outshot MCLA 24-1 in the half and assisted on ten of their fourteen goals.

The Owls played possession for most of the second half and were never threatened.

Sam Donohoe led the Owls with three goals.  Navoni and Lambert each ended with two apiece.

Maria Woodall started for the Owls and earned the win as she improved to 14-1 on the season. 

Zoe Elwell took the loss in net for MCLA.  She stopped 9 shots on the evening.

The Trailblazers wrap up the 2018 season on Saturday with a senior day tilt against Framingham State University at 1pm.
