MCLA's Marini lands communications internship with AJGA

North Adams, MA- MCLA's Kelsey Marini has landed a summer internship with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) in the field of communications.  Marini just wrapped up her four year career in a Trailblazer uniform as a member of the Women's Soccer program.  Marini, an English/Communications major at the college, just graduated a few weeks ago.

The internship with the AJGA is very competitive.  Over 350 applicants were narrowed down to 96 potential summer interns.  The AJGA took 48 total interns for the summer, including 12 in the communications field.  The twelve interns will be traveling all summer long to various events and tournaments.  Marini will be based on the east coast beginning June 1st and running through September.  

Interns will learn everything that is involved with conducting a golf tournament.  Some of the duties and responsibilities include:

            • Post-round results and news releases
            • Prepare each tournament's printed materials
            • Tournament photography
            • Distribute results to local and national media
            • Update the AJGA's Web site, ajga.org
            • Media and public relations
            • Monitoring equipment inventory, maintenance and replenishment
            • Public speaking
            • On-course rules officiating
            • General tournament set-up and preparation
            • Golf course set-up and preparation
            • Starting and scoring of players

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.  The association is the largest organization of its kind with a membership of more than 5,000 juniors from 49 states and 25 foreign countries.  In 2009, the AJGA plans to conduct more than 80 tournaments across the United States.  The purpose of the AJGA is to provide positive life experiences for junior golfers by giving them the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills while setting high standards to preserve the integrity and traditions of the game.  By remaining committed to this purpose, the AJGA has built a reputation of providing the best exposure vehicle for college golf scholarships.

Marini was a four year letter winner under MCLA Head Coach Deb Raber.  She was a member of the MASCAC All Academic team and also interned in the sports information office during her final semester handling statistics, press releases, and website content.  Marini was also an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee during her time at MCLA.
