Caney, Holliday find back of net in 2-2 double OT draw with ACP

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer started fast, then had to rally as they ultimately drew 2-2 with visiting Albany College of Pharmacy tonight at Shewcraft Field.  The game was originally set to begin at 6pm, however travel issues with the Panthers delayed the kickoff until 7:10.

The Trailblazers came out flying as Natalie Caney broke free in the clear just 35 seconds into action and easily slipped it by ACP keeper Kennedy Rives for an early 1-0 lead.  The goal was Caney's second of the season.  The lead would stand until the 18th minute when ACP's leading scorer Erin Tersegno was taken down in the box and drew a penalty kick.

She would convert the kick in the lower right corner tying the game at 1-1 where it would remain until halftime.  In the 61st minute, Tersegno again would score unassisted giving the Panthers the lead and momentum.  The marker was her 23rd of the season.

MCLA would finally net the equalizer in the 75th minute when freshman Kaylyn Holliday would convert her team leading fourth goal of the year tying the game at 2-2 and ultimately sending it into overtime.

In the extra sessions, MCLA would control possession outshooting the Panthers 5-1.  Holliday had some quality chances to net the game winner.  She would just miss outside the far right post in the second OT and just a minute later ripped a shot that missed the left corner by inches.  The Trailblazers had one last chance when Caney was fouled with three seconds left just outside the 18.

With no choice but to send it over the wall and on net, Caney's shot was just high and the match ended in a draw.

The Panthers (9-3-1) held a slim 21-20 shot advantage over MCLA, but the Trailblazers (3-7-4) held a 15-11 advantage after halftime.  MCLA also held a commanding 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Megan Richardson stopped 7 shots for MCLA in the draw.

For ACP, Amy Jagareski came off the bench to record 3 saves over the final 65 minutes of action.

The Trailblazers are back in action Saturday when they host Senior Day against Fitchburg State at 1pm at Shewcraft field.
