Richardson, Caney named to All MASCAC First team

2016 Women's Soccer All MASCAC Team

North Adams, MA- A pair of MCLA Women's Soccer standouts were named first team All MASCAC as senior Natalie Caney and freshman Megan Richardson were selected as announced by the league offices today.  The honor marks the fourth straight year that Caney has been selected and the first for Richardson.

Bridgewater State's Lauren Desousa was voted as the league's player of the year while Yasmina Carvalho of Bridgewater State was the coach of the year.  Westfield State's Bella Eduardo was named the rookie of the year.

Caney tallied three goals and a pair of assists on the season.  The senior from Belchertown, MA led the team in shots and has been an offensive weapon since she arrived on campus. She tallied her lone conference goal on a penalty kick in a match at home against Fitchburg State.

Richardson burst on to the scene and quickly became one of the top keepers in the league. The first year Trailblazer from Adams, MA had a 1.19 goals against average and stopped 122 shots this season.  She amassed five shutouts and had four games where she collected double digit saves highlighted by a 13 save performance in a 0-0 draw with Bridgewater State.  Her 122 saves were second in the league.

Sitting on the MASCAC First Team with DeSousa and Eduardo are Alana Vincent of Bridgewater State, Tess Gorman, Michaela Hyland and Angela Pallotta of Framingham State, Kaitlyn Curley of Salem State, Caitlyn MacGregor and Kate Matroni of Westfield State and Nicole Parenteau of Worcester State.

Earning a spot on the MASCAC Second Team are Drew Guay and Courtney Pepin of Bridgewater State. Maddie Medina and Samantha Zina of Fitchburg State, Allison Celia, Talia Frazier and Devyn Malatesta of Salem State and Justine Butler, Ashleigh Howland, Brianna Moreno and Vanessa O'Donnell of Worcester State.
