2016 NSCAA Ethics Award Recipients

2015-2016 NSCAA Team Academic Award

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer program was the recipient of a pair of NSCAA awards announced by the national office earlier this month.  The Trailblazers once again claimed the Silver Award for Ethics which was announced last week by the national soccer organization.  Also, the 2015 team was honored by the NSCAA for the Team Academic Award.

It marks the 14th time under head coach Deb Raber that the Trailblazers were honored by the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) for the ethics award.  It also marks the third straight season in which MCLA earned the team academic award.

This ethics award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

A level explanation is as follows:

Platinum: No cards accumulated during the season

Gold: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 1-10%

Silver: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 11-30%

Bronze: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 31-50%

The Trailblazers earned the silver award last season as well and have become regular honorees by the NSCAA with the Ethics Award as this year marks the 14th time in 17 seasons they've been recipients.

A total of 918 soccer teams across all NCAA divisions (326 men, 592 women) from throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year. Among these programs are 236 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
