Women's Soccer downed by Owls 5-0 in MASCAC play

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University's women's soccer team posted a 5-0 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

The Owls improve to 3-2-2 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play while the Trailblazers are now 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the MASCAC.

The first half was dominated by the Owls. Westfield State junior midfielder Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass. / Chicopee) scored off of a rebound in the 13th minute of play to get the quick 1-0 lead over MCLA.

The second half proved to be more of the same. Eduardo assisted freshman defender Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass. / Southwick) in the 57th minute after a visitor foul was called on the previous play to extend their lead to 2-0.

The Owls would score another three goals, with the next two finding the back of the net just two minutes from one another. Westfield's junior forward Ashley Levya (Walpole, Mass.) centered a pass from Kinsman in the 63rd minute of play and junior defender Caitlyn MacGregor (Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug) followed by flipping the ball out of the hands of MCLA's sophomore goalkeeper Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass. / Hoosac Valley) to lead 4-0.

Owls' freshman Amelia Dougherty (Dalton, Mass. / Wahconah Regional) scored at 79:01 after an assist from freshman Cate Plante (Monson, Mass) to make the final score 5-0.

For the game, Westfield held a 45-1 shot advantage and led 9-0 in corner kicks.

Richardson played in goal for the Trailblazers and had an exceptional 23 saves.

Westfield State's junior goalkeeper Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) played the first half in net, making one save while sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Beach (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam) played in goal for the Owls during the second half and made no saves.

The Owls are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Union College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game. MCLA travels to Southern Vermont College on Tuesday for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
