Women's Soccer drops season opener to Nichols 2-0 on the road

Dudley, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team lifted the curtain on the 2018 season with a matinee at Nichols College.  The Trailblazers were shut out by the Bison 2-0 in the opener for both clubs.

Nichols scored twice in the first half and made it stand to earn their first victory of 2018.  In the 16th minute, Madison Clark lofted a high shot that MCLA keeper Megan Richardson barely got her hands on and deflected it off the crossbar.   The rebound went directly to Meghan Dunn who easily poked it thru the left side of the net for an early 1-0 advantage.

Ten minutes later, Clark would tally off a Kaylin Goncalves feed.  She lofted a perfect ball into the upper left cage to make it 2-0.  It would stay that way until halftime as the Bison controlled most of the half of play as they outshot MCLA 12-3 in the opening 45 minutes.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the closing half of play as Nichols continued to hold the advantage owning a 13-5 margin in shots.

Nichols keeper Brooke Downey earned her first win of the season stopping all 4 shots she saw.

Richardson collected 8 saves in defeat for MCLA.

The Trailblazers will continue their early season road trip on Tuesday when they head to St. Joseph (CT).
