Late goal sets back women's soccer as they fall to Falcons 1-0 in MASCAC play

North Adams, MA- Fitchburg State's Mikaela Mitchell scored the lone goal in the 80th minute to lift the visiting Falcons to a hard fought 1-0 win over the MCLA Trailblazers at Shewcraft Field.  With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the MASCAC.  MCLA drops to 4-9 on the season and is 1-4 in the conference.

After a scoreless first half in which the Falcons held an 18-2 shot advantage, they would finally push one past MCLA's Megan Richardson late in the game.  Mitchell would corral the ball near the top of the box and fire a shot into the upper left corner for the eventual game winner.  The marker was her team leading 7th goal of the season.

The Trailblazers had some chances later in the contest, but FSU's Sarah Hemmings made a pair of saves in the closing minutes of action to preserve the win.

Fitchburg ended the contest with a sizable 23-5 shot advantage over MCLA.  Hemmings earned her second win of the season after stopping three shots in goal.

MCLA's Richardson suffered the tough luck loss but stopped six shots in the process.

MCLA is back in action on Monday night when they host SUNY Poly at 7pm at Shewcraft Field.
