Gibney's late goal rallies MCLA past Cobleskill 3-2 in women's soccer

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team rallied back from a 2-1 halftime deficit and Maddie Gibney's penalty kick goal with just two minutes remaining lifted the Trailblazers to a 3-2 non conference win over Cobleskill this evening at Shewcraft Field.  MCLA improves to 2-9-1 overall on the season while the Fighting Tigers dip to 3-8-1.

Cobleskill held a 2-1 lead at the break, but MCLA started to push the envelope in the second half.  They would eventually pull even in the 80th minute when Alyssa Porter slipped one in on the short side to tie things up at 2-2.  It was Porter's third goal of 2019.

The score would remain that way until the pivotal final two minutes.  Cobleskill tripped an MCLA player in the box and the penalty kick ensued.  Gibney stepped forward and ripped a shot into the upper left corner to give MCLA their first lead of the night at 3-2.  It was her second goal of the season.

The MCLA defense would make it stand as they held Cobleskill without a shot over the final two minutes of play.

In the opening half, Cobleskill struck first.  In the 7th minute of play, Chloe Antalek would gather a cross from Ana Post and then drill a shot into the upper right corner from the top of the box for an early 1-0 lead.  The goal was her sixth of the season.

MCLA would net the equalizer in the 27th minute as Cetera Moore would corral a pass from Maddie Gibney and slip one past Cobleskill's Abigail Wetsel to knot things up at 1-1.  It was Moore's team leading fourth goal of the season.  Cobleskill would regain the lead in the 38th minute as Post would convert her fifth goal of the season to give the Fighting Tigers a 2-1 advantage.  The score would remain that way into halftime.

MCLA held a slim 19-17 shot advantage over Cobleskill.

Abigail Wetsel took the loss as she stopped 11 shots.

MCLA's Madison Breese (1-0) collected her first collegiate win and stopped five shots.

The Trailblazers are back in action at Shewcraft Field on Saturday as they host Worcester State at noon.
