MCLA holds off Becker in Women's Tennis
North Adams, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers held off visiting Becker College to earn a 5-4 victory in Women's Tennis action this afternoon at Zavattaro Athletics complex. Trailblazer Danielle Wiencek earned a pair of points, including a come from behind win in singles to clinch the victory.
MCLA is now 2-7 overall, while Becker drops to 8-6.
MCLA took a pair of points in the opening doubles matches as Wiencek and Megan Holmes won 8-3. The Trailblazers also earned a point in the third doubles match due to a forfeit.
Leading 2-1 heading into singles action, MCLA was guaranteed a point due to another forfeit in the number six slot. Needing just a pair of victories to clinch the win, MCLA's Laura Laureano won 6-0, 7-5 in the number three slot setting up Wiencek's clinching match.
Wiencek dropped the opening set 6-0 to Becker's Kerry Sattrick before starting her rally. She earned a 6-3 win in the second set to force a match deciding third set. The freshman stepped up and won convincingly, 6-1 to cinch the win for MCLA.
The Trailblazers hope to carry the momentum into a very busy week. MCLA will host Anna Maria tomorrow and before a pair of matches on Thursday and Friday to close the regular season.
