Women's Tennis falls to Castleton 7-2 in NAC Semifinals

Colby, ME- The MCLA Trailblazers fell 7-2 this morning to the Castleton State Spartans in the semifinal round of the NEAC East Division semifinals.  The Spartans moved on to the championship round to face Colby Sawyer, while MCLA ends their season at 7-7 overall.

Castleton jumped out to a hard fought 3-0 advantage after sweeping the doubles points. All of the matches ended at 9-7 in favor of CSC putting MCLA in a hole.

In singles action, Castleton was able to take four of the six matches, led by number one singles player Meghan Susslin, who survived a grueling match against MCLA's Sarah Mikutowicz in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 11-9. In number two singles, Sarah Murphy of the Trailblazers pulled off the win over Olga McIntyre in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.

Castleton handled the number three and four singles, as Sara Novenstern and Shannon Haggerty secured the match wins over Mariza Sfakianaki and Emily Deaso.

Finally, in number five and six singles, Rebecca Waterhouse of MCLA defeated Kaydeen Juaire 6-3, 6-3, and Kayla Zsido of Castleton defeated Kylie Dumas 6-3, 6-0.

This was the first time since joining the NAC that MCLA qualified for the postseason.
