Women's Tennis cruises past Bay Path 8-1 in season opener

Springfield, MA- The visiting MCLA Women's Tennis team swept thru the doubles matches en route to cruising past Bay Path 8-1 this afternoon in the season opener for both teams.  The Trailblazers, now 1-0, will return to the court on Saturday when they host Sage at Noon at the Zavattaro Athletics Complex.

The Trailblazers took control early in sweeping the three doubles points.  In the top slot, Emily Deaso teamed with Mariza Sfakianaki to win 8-2.  In the second match, Taylor Turner, making her collegiate debut, paired with Shelby Gauthier to win 8-4 for the second point.  Rebecca Waterhouse and Anna Despart teamed up in the third slot to win 8-2 and close out the sweep.

In singles play, MCLA never left their foot off the gas.  They won five points, all in straight sets led by Deaso's hard fought 6-4, 7-5 win at number one.  Turner earned her second point 6-3, 7-6, while Sfakianaki cruised 6-1, 6-1 giving MCLA the match.  

Waterhouse and Despart won handily at four and five singles to round out the scoring.
