Tennis handles Thomas 8-1 in NAC action to keep playoff hopes alive
Bennington, VT- The MCLA Women's Tennis team kept their NAC playoff hopes alive by virtue of an 8-1 win over Thomas (ME) this evening in a match played at the Bennington Tennis Center. With the win, MCLA improves to 6-4 overall and are 4-2 in the league. Thomas drops to 3-7 overall and is 2-4 in the league.
MCLA will need to defeat Husson tomorrow morning to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Trailblazers swept the doubles matches as Emily Deaso and Mariza Sfakianaki won 8-6 to earn the first point. Sarah Hachadourian and Briana Higgins won 8-4 in the second slot before Anna Despart and Sam Gawron rolled to an 8-0 win giving the Trailblazers the early edge.
Sfakianaki earned her second point of the day in the top singles slot 8-2 while Despart took the third slot by the same score. Gawron, Higgins, and Shelby Gauthier all won convincingly as they took 8-0 decisions to close out the match for MCLA.
The NAC playoffs are held next Saturday and MCLA is currently ahead of fourth place Castleton as the Spartans are finished at 4-3. An MCLA win tomorrow will assure them a playoff berth next weekend.
MCLA will take on Husson at 11am at the Bennington Tennis center.
