Tennis falls to Worcester State 8-1 in season debut

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State women's tennis team swept all six singles matches en route to a convincing 8-1 win over the MCLA Trailblazers in a match this afternoon played at Wachusett High School.  With the win, the Lancers improve to 2-0 on the season while MCLA is now 0-1.

The Trailblazers got off to a decent start as the duo of Mariza Sfakianaki and Sam Gawron earned a point in the top doubles slot by dispatching the team of Lauren Taylor and Alexis Silk 8-5.  WSU would claim the next two doubles matches in convincing fashion as they rolled 8-1 in the second spot and 8-2 in the third to take a 2-1 edge into singles play.

Sfakianaki gave Taylor all she could handle, but ultimately Taylor would get revenge and earn a hard fought point 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.  Nathaloe Khafaga took the second doubles match 6-3, 6-2 over Gawron to give the Lancers the lead.  Alexis Silk, Rachel Green, Monika Mularski, and Tori Konicki all earned straight set wins to close out the scoring.

MCLA is back in action tomorrow when they host Colby Sawyer in the NAC opener for both teams.  Worcester State will take on Becker on Monday.
