Tennis downs Johnson State 5-4

Johnson, VT- The MCLA Women's Tennis team edged out Johnson State this afternoon with a hard fought 5-4 conference victory. With the win the Trailblazers improve their overall record to 3-4 and are now 3-2 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Johnson State drops to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The doubles team of Mariza Sfakianaki and Sam Gawron cruised to an 8-0 win while teammates Briana Higgins and Ashley Juskhas also took their match 8-3 giving the Trailblazers a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Johnson State's Kali Covell, Ashley Fogg and Sam Kershner would each earn points for the Badgers in their matches but the Sfakianaki (6-1, 6-1), Gawron (6-0, 6-2) and Higgins (6-0, 6-2) straight set victories would be good enough to earn the Trailblazers a split in singles play and ultimately the match, 5-4.

Johnson State will travel south to Western New England University tomorrow for its next match and MCLA will be in action next Saturday as they travel to take on NAC rival Husson.
