Volleyball drops heartbreaker at Smith 3-2

Northampton, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers Volleyball program lost a five set heart breaker at Smith College tonight falling to the Pioneers 3-2.  Smith improves its mark to 4-2 while MCLA drops to 2-3 overall.

The Pioneers took the opening set 25-14 before the Trailblazers rallied and took the second 25-18.  Smith would win the pivotal third set at 25-22, however MCLA stayed alive winning the fourth 25-19.  Smith would close out MCLA 15-9 in the deciding fifth set.

MCLA got strong performances from Brianne O'Rourke and Samantha Anderson.  O'Rourke tallied 14 kills on 34 attacks, while Anderson chipped in with 12 kills and hit .357 for the match.  Allie Chang had a season high 30 digs for MCLA, while Jackie Paluilis and Angelica Perfido each ended the night with 17.  Courtney Parent set up the middle hitters all night racking up 31 assists.

Smith was led by Mei-Li Smith's 16 kills and 28 digs.  Allison Hardy added 10 kills and 17 digs, while Dayra Diaz Marquez had 9 kills and 17 digs.  Marquez added 24 assists and 17 digs on the night.  

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Becker College.
