Volleyball rallies again, wins fifth straight with 3-2 win at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts came back from a two-set deficit to take the match 3-2 from host Curry College in non-conference women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. Set scores were 16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 15-6. The Trailblazers improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 4-9.
Curry took the first two sets comfortably by scores of 25-16 and 25-20. MCLA fought back to edge out the Colonels 25-22 in the third set. In the fourth set, the Trailblazers maintained a steady lead and held off a late rally by Curry for a 25-23 victory. MCLA then went on to control the deciding set, clinching the match with a nine-point win at 15-6.
Junior Courtney Parent (So. Deerfield, Mass.) pushed the Trailblazers to victory with impressive match-highs in kills (10), assists (21), and serving aces (6). Freshman Chanielle Enomoto (Wailuku, Hawaii) followed behind with 15 setting assists and eight digs. Senior Alexandra Chang (North Port, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 digs.
The Colonels were led by senior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) with a team best eight kills. Junior Nicole Grambley (No. Attleboro, Mass.) contributed 14 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded match best with 21 digs, while classmate Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) also recorded match best in blocks, three solo and three assists.
Both teams return to action Tuesday as Curry opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play by hosting Wentworth Institute of Technology at 6:00 p.m. MCLA will face off against Sage College at home starting at 7:00 p.m.
