Trailblazers Open MASCAC with 3-0 Loss

The MCLA Trailblazers opened conference play with a 3-0 defeat at home at the hands of the Worcester State Lancers on Saturday.

MCLA and Worcester went back and forth early in game one before a spurt midway through opened up an eight point cushion for the visitors. Alyssa Jasper had five of her game high seventeen kills in game one as the Lancers prevailed 25-15. The story of game one was at the net as MCLA has eleven attack errors, compared to just two by the Lancers.

Game two was sloppy early as both teams made mistakes and exchanged points. The action picked up late with the Lancers ahead by four; as both teams made some acrobatic plays to keep rallies alive. The Trailblazers appeared to have some momentum after winning back to back points and cutting the lead to two. However, again it would be the Lancers that came away with the win 25-18. Five service errors by MCLA hurt their cause.

Worcester would jump out 23-13 only to see MCLA close the gap to 23-20 behind strong play from Sam Anderson and Darien Quick. Worcester would regroup though and close out the game and match 25-20.

Quick led MCLA with seven kills and Rachel Mills would add five in defeat.  Jackie Paluilis had ten digs and was spectacular at times in the back row, while Courtney Parent added twelve assists.

Jasper was everywhere it seemed for the Lancers; she had seventeen digs to go along with her seventeen kills. Amanda Lewis had twenty-seven assists for Worcester.

Worcester moves to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the MASCAC. They will host Westfield St. Wednesday night at 8:00pm.

MCLA falls to 7-5 and 0-1 in league play. The Trailblazers will host Framingham St. Wednesday at 7:00pm.
