Trailblazer Volleyball falls to Owls 3-1 in MASCAC play

Westfield, MA- The MCLA Volleyball program dropped a hard fought 3-1 decision tonight to Westfield State in MASCAC action.  The Trailblazers fall to 5-14 and are 1-3 in the league.  The Owls improve to 7-12 overall and are 3-1 in the conference.

MCLA claimed the opening set 25-23 from the Owls, but Westfield came back to take the second set by the identical score.  WSU controlled the third set 25-10 before rallying for a 25-22 clinching set.  

The Trailblazers led 20-16 in the fourth set, however the Owls went on a match closing 9-2 spurt to earn the win. 

MCLA was paced by Brooke Queripel's team high 11 kills on 32 attacks.  She added 18 digs to complete the double double.  Maggie Allen notched 8 kills while Sara LaFreniere posted 6.  Natasha Stewart fed the offense with 16 assists while Taylor Wiese collected 15.  

On defense, Mele Enomoto had a team high 21 digs.  Michelle Laga had 14 digs while Stewart added 12.

The Owls were led by Natasha Belardo's game high 17 kills.  Karolyn Higgins added 11 for the Owls.  Brigid Murray spearheaded the offense to the tune of 44 assists.  She added 18 digs.

Lizzie Taylor added a match best 24 digs for Westfield State.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday when they host Castleton University at 7pm.
