Volleyball snaps slide with 3-0 MASCAC win over Fitchburg State
North Adams, MA- The MCLA Volleyball program snapped a ten game slide with an emphatic 3-0 win over visiting Fitchburg State this evening in MASCAC action. The Trailblazers improve to 7-14 with the win and pick up their first conference victory as they are now 1-5. The Falcons drop to 2-18 overall and are winless in league play at 0-6.
The Trailblazers wasted little time in taking control as they took the games first ten points and eventually cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set. MCLA would keep up the pressure by winning the second set 25-5, but the Falcons wouldn't go quietly. The visitors led for much of the third set, but MCLA rattled off the set's final 8 points to earn the win.
Alyssa Keegan led the offensive attack with a match best 11 kills on 21 attacks. Sara LaFreniere added 8 kills, 6 aces, and 6 digs for MCLA. Tessa Sestito racked up 19 assists from the setter position. Celine Manigbas recorded a match best 9 digs.
Natasha Stewart gave the hosts a spark as she notched a game best 8 aces and added 9 assists.
Fitchburg was led by Kristina Osborne's team best 4 kills. Lauren Riccardi notched 9 digs in the loss.
MCLA is back on the road this weekend in non conference action as they head to Lasell for a tri match with Simmons.
