Volleyball clinches playoff berth with 3-0 win over Mass. Maritime in regular season finale

Buzzards Bay, MA- The MCLA Volleyball team needed a win over Mass. Maritime to clinch a playoff berth in next week's championships.  The Trailblazers did just that as they handed the Buccaneers a 3-0 defeat to advance into next week's tournament.  The Trailblazers snap a three game slide as they end the regular season at 8-17 and 2-5 in the conference.  The Bucs finish their season at 2-19 overall and 1-6 in the MASCAC.

MCLA was in a dogfight early on as they held off MMA 26-24 in the opening set.  The second set was just as tough as the Trailblazers eeked out a 25-23 win.  They would close out the match with a more routine 25-15 win in the third.

The MCLA offense was paced by Alyssa Keegan's team best 10 kills on 37 attacks.  Sara LaFreniere ended with 8 kills and added 10 digs.  Tessa Sestito continued her role in setting up the hitters with 23 assists and also notched 5 aces.  Sestito did it on the defensive side as well ending with 15 digs.

Celine Manigbas and Keegan had 15 and 13 digs respectively.  MCLA overcame 17 attack errors.

MMA was paced by Jen Roy's match best 12 kills.  Michelle Sheehan dished out 18 assists and Christina Ruggen ended with 22 digs.

The Trailblazers will await the winner of tomorrow's Westfield State and Framingham State match.  The quarterfinal round of the MASCAC tournament gets underway Tuesday, October 30th.
