Volleyball rallies for 3-2 win over EConn, drops nightcap to host Keene State

Keene, NH- The MCLA Volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Eastern Connecticut 3-2 in the opening contest of a tri match hosted by Keene State.  The Trailblazers would fall 3-0 to the hosts in the nightcap.  MCLA is now 13-7 on the season after the split.

In the opener, MCLA dropped the first two sets 26-24 and 25-14 to put themselves in an early hole.  The Trailblazers would fight back however and take the next two sets 25-17 and 25-21 to set up the fifth and final set.

Eastern took the lead, but eventually MCLA rallied past the Warriors to record the hard fought victory.

Kelly Moczulski led the team with 16 kills and 24 digs.  Teammate Reagan Scattergood had a nice opening match adding 10 kills.  Tessa Sestito continued her torrid assist pace collecting 37 more on the afternoon.  The Trailblazers racked up 128 digs in the match, led by Natasha Stewart's 43.  Aside from Stewart and Moczulski, Sestito collected 21 digs while Houa Xiong and Ahna Schlaefer ended with 15 and 12 respectively.

The dramatic comeback seemed to have an influence on game two as the host Owls handled MCLA easily.  They took the sets by scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-18 to record the victory.

Moczulski once again led the team with 11 kills and she added 11 more digs to her stat line.  Scattergood added 6 more kills for MCLA.  Sestito notched 21 assists while Stewart ended with 23 digs in the loss.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday night when they host Framingham State in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.
