Wright tabbed to lead both Cross Country programs at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — The Athletics Department at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) and Director of Athletics Laura Mooney have announced the hiring of Abigail Wright as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs. Wright will replace Monica Conlin, who stepped down after serving as coach the last two seasons.

"Abigail's experiences throughout her running career, matched with her background in sports bio and nutrition, will enhance our Trailblazer cross country programs," Mooney said. "As a former Division III student-athlete, she understands the benefits to providing a positive student-athlete experience. Her drive and determination will assist our runners in reaching their full potential, and set the foundation for future success."

Wright, a 2012 graduate of Pittsfield High School, earned a degree in sports biology from Springfield College in 2016.  While at Springfield, she served as captain for her final two seasons. She participated in both cross country and track and field, and was a decorated member of Springfield College's "the Pride," and was named Athlete of the Year in 2015 for her efforts there.

After college, Wright continued to excel as a runner. She frequently competes in full and half marathons, including this year's Boston Marathon.

Wright will lead both cross country programs at MCLA as she embarks on her collegiate coaching career. Her first meet will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Castleton University in Castleton, Vt.
