Women's Cross Country places seventh in 2018 MASCAC Championships

For the second straight year, the Worcester State Lancers were the top team at the MASCAC Women's Cross Country Championship hosted by MCLA at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday morning.

The Lancers finished with 38 points to take home the top spot while Westfield State was in second with 48 points. Bridgewater State came in third with 89 points and Framingham State not far behind in fourth with 93. Massachusetts Maritime was next in fifth with 142 points while Fitchburg State and MCLA rounded out the field in sixth and seventh with 153 and 204 points, respectively.

Elisabeth Olson led the way for Worcester State with a first place overall all finish with a time of 20:03 in the 5k race to earn 2018 MASCAC Runner of the Year honors. She was joined on the All-Conference team by teammates Mia Rogers in third with a time of 20:21 and Kelsey Bedard in 10th with a time of 21:33. 

Westfield State finished second by the 2018 MASCAC Rookie of the Year Amy O'Sullivan who crossed the line fifth with a time of 20:47 in the 5k race. Joining her was Andrea Noland in eighth with a time of 21:19 and Kerry O'Neil in ninth with a time of 21:22 to earn All-Conference accolades. 

The Bridgewater State duo of Jenise Madden and Emily Guyon found themselves in the top 10 to grab All-Conference honors. Madden was second overall with a time of 20:06 while Guyon came across seventh in a time of 21:14. 

Fitchburg State and Framingham State each had a runner finish in the top 10 for All-Conference accolades. For the Falcons, Amy Kelly was fourth with a time of 20:31 and Eliza Weisse for the Rams finished sixth with a time of 21:09 to grab the honor. 

Scott Vandermolen of Framingham State was named the 2018 Champion's Choice Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. 

Up next for the cross country teams is the NCAA DIII New England Regionals on November 10 in Brunswick, Maine hosted by Bowdoin College.
