MCLA holds National Girls and Women in Sports Day Celebration

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Athletics Department held their annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration this morning in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The event drew in 50 girls and 12 adults eager to participate in this year’s national theme “game on”.

The day celebrated several sports that the girls and women participated in. This year the sports included basketball, tennis, volleyball, Zumba dance, and the lacrosse. The girls were also guests for the women’s basketball team during their game with Fitchburg State.

The women participating were able to enjoy Pickleball in the McCann Technical High School gymnasium and workout in the MCLA fitness center.

MCLA is celebrating its 27th year putting on NGWSD. The event is organized by Dot Houston, assistant athletics director. The clinics were helped by 60 volunteers that included MCLA student athletes, coaches, and administrators. The lunch following the clinics were donated by Donovan and O’Connor, LLP.

During the half time of the women’s game, the girls participated in the 25 pass solute in honor of the event.  Also, Dot Houston was honored for running NGWSD 25 years and was given a plaque for her dedication to the event.
