Baseball sweeps twinbill with Colby Sawyer 16-2 and 10-8

Winter Haven, FL- The MCLA Baseball team pounded out 27 hits on a hot day in Winter Haven as they swept a doubleheader with Colby Sawyer taking the opener 16-2 before holding off the Chargers 10-8 in the nightcap.  MCLA improves to 6-3 on the season heading into the Florida Trip finale tomorrow morning vs. Sewanee.  CSC falls to 0-10 on the season.

In the opener, MCLA scored in every inning.  The Chargers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second, before MCLA plated six runs in the bottom half to take control.  The Trailblazers then added two in the third, a single run in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth.  

Tyler Benoit led the offense in the opener collecting three hits in three at bats and driving in four runs.  Mike Sullivan had three hits, while Myles Candelet, Chase Preite, Ryan Grande, and Alon Willing all had two.

Off the mound, the story was Todd Hunt.  The big lefty tossed six innings to earn his first win giving up four hits and striking out six.

In the second game of the day, the Chargers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings before MCLA scored four times in the third to take the lead.  CSC would tie it off MCLA starter Robert Jutras in the fourth inning, however the Trailblazers quickly regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.

CSC would mount a rally in the bottom of the sixth inning after falling behind 10-4.  The Chargers would get to Jutras for four runs and ultimately chase him from the game.  Eamonn Andre would enter and record the final two outs of the sixth and pitch a perfect seventh to earn the save.

Benoit once again was a force going 3-3 in game two while scoring three times.  Nate Alibozek went 4-4 and drove in four runs in the contest too.  Slayter Aubin drove in four runs as well with a pair of sac flies.

Jutras went 5 1/3 innings and struck out six.
