Men's Basketball sees streak end with 86-62 loss to SUNY Delhi

North Adams, MA- The visiting SUNY Delhi men's basketball team raced past the MCLA Trailblazers 86-62 this afternoon in non league action in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.  The Broncos (6-8 overall) placed three players in double figures to record the win.  MCLA (4-7 overall) saw their modest three game winning streak come to a halt.

Payton Dean led all scorers with 23 points and completed the double double with 13 rebounds.  Jordan Fragale filled the stat sheet with 21 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds for the Broncos.  Williiam Knight added 18 points including four three pointers in the win.

MCLA started fast in the opening half as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead forcing a Broncos' timeout.  From there, Delhi dominated the half.  They immediately went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for the first time at 9-6.  MCLA answered with a three pointer to tie it up again, but the Broncos responded with a 13-5 spurt to take a 22-14 lead with just over nine minutes left to play in the half.

MCLA got within six (22-16) before the visitors went on another spurt, this time a 16-6 run to take a sizable 38-21 halftime advantage.  The Trailblazers had trouble stopping Payton Dean inside over the opening twenty minutes as he accumulated 12 points and 10 rebounds for Delhi.  Teammate William Knight added 13 first half points while Jordan Fragale netted 10 for the Broncos. 

MCLA shot just 24% in the half and committed 10 turnovers.

The Trailblazers tried to press over the final twenty minutes, but never really threatened the lead.  MCLA gave up easy baskets as Fragale weaved his way through the pressure defense leading to a pair of Dean dunks to finally put the game away.  

The Broncos shot 49% in the win including a 53% clip in the fast paced second half.  They also owned a 51-43 rebounding advantage.

MCLA was led by Hayden Bird's team best 12 points while Shamar Logins chipped in with 10 off the bench.  The Trailblazers committed 21 turnovers and shot just 31% from the floor in the loss.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they host Southern Vermont at 7pm.
