Golf finishes fifth at Westfield State Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Babson College freshman Martin Jensen shot a 1-over par 72 to win the individual title, and led the beavers to the team title at the Westfield State University Invitational men's golf tournament at Tekoa Country Club on Tuesday.

MCLA was paced by Nick Bator who carded an 80 for the Trailblazers.  The freshman fired a 38 on the front nine and closed with a 42 to post his score.  Matt Lawrence came in with an 81 for MCLA shooting 40-41 at Tekoa.  Quinn McCormick added an 84 for the Trailblazers.  Nolan Bird and Nate Gutmann also competed for MCLA.

Jensen carded four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey in the winning round on the 6,315-yard Donald Ross/Geoffrey Cornish layout.  He doubled his first hole of the day, then went around the next 17 holes in 1-under par, finishing with a par to secure the win.  He finished a stroke ahead of three players who finished with 73, including his teammates Pranav Mohan and Luc Linmayr, and Steven Ferraro of Worcester State.

Westfield State junior Mike Sarkis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was tied for fifth with a three-over 74, making three birdies and six bogeys.

Babson dominated the team scoring, finishing 14 shots ahead of second-place Rhode Island College (306) and 17 in front of the host Owls, who turned in a strong performance with a team score of 309 in the 14-team tournament.
