Colavecchio, Irwin net pair of goals, but Mitchell bests MCLA 18-6 in Men's Lacrosse

North Adams, MA- Visiting Mitchell College's Jade Shields scored five goals to lead the Mariners to an 18-6 win over the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon at chilly Shewcraft Field.  The Mariners earned their first win of the season as they're now 1-2.  MCLA falls to 0-2 early on.

Mitchell's James Giovanneillo tallied just one minute into the game to start the scoring, but MCLA's Lucas Colavecchio responded with his first tally to tie things up just three minutes later.  

The visitors would tally the first quarter's final three goals to take a 4-1 lead.

The run continued for Mitchell as they notched the next two goals to increase the lead to 6-1.  Jade Shields scored a short handed goal to cap the spurt.  MCLA's Colavecchio tallied his second goal of the contest to cut the lead to 6-2, but Mitchell added two more goals to make it 8-2 at halftime.

The Mariners put the game away scoring the first four goals of the third quarter to pull away.  Shields tallied twice more in the run.  Mitchell led 15-5 heading into the fourth quarter.

Mitchell added three more tallies in the fourth while MCLA closed out the scoring on a Nate Allen goal.

Sheids led all players with 5 goals on 14 shots.  Ethan LePain notched 4 goals while Tyler McManus and Giovanniello ended with 3 each.  Marcel Quinlan earned the win stopping 11 shots.

MCLA was paced by Colavecchio and Thomas Irwin who each ended with a pair of goals.  Gavin Butler absorbed the loss for MCLA.
