Second half dooms men's soccer in 2-1 setback to West Conn.

Danbury, CT- The MCLA men's soccer team surrendered a pair of second half goals just one minute apart as host Western Connecticut rallied past MCLA 2-1 this evening in non conference action.  West Conn improves to 6-4 on the season while MCLA drops to 3-8.

Oscar Castro got MCLA going in the first half as he converted a penalty kick to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 advantage.  It's the second straight game that Castro has converted a PK.  The goal was his team leading third of the season.

The Colonials would control the game as they outshot MCLA 24-5, but for a while they couldn't get one past MCLA keeper Kamron Anderson.

Anderson stopped three shots in the opening half and was keeping the visitors in front midway through the second half before the Colonials exploded.  In the 75th minute, Mikey Sciortino converted a feed from Robert Della Penna to tie the game.  Just one minute later, Sciortino once again made something happen.  This time, he would find Della Penna who would score the game winner slipping it past Anderson for a 2-1 lead with just 14 minutes left to play.

MCLA wouldn't muster a shot over the final minutes giving the hosts the win.

Anderson notched 8 saves for MCLA while Daniel Szabo stopped one shot for West Conn to earn the win.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they continue MASCAC play against Framingham State on the road.
