Tennis clinches final NAC playoff berth with 9-0 win over Green Mountain

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men's Tennis program earned their way into the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) postseason tournament by virtue off a 9-0 win this afternoon over Green Mountain.  Both teams came in with identical conference marks meaning the winner would advance into next weekend's tournament.

The Trailblazers are now 4-5 overall and finish at 3-3 in the conference.  The Eagles are 5-6 and end at 2-4 in league play.

MCLA took the upper hand almost immediately as they swept the doubles matches.  Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak teamed for a point in the top doubles slot defeating Javier Lugris and Dakota Dodson 8-3.  Andrew Nygard and Jared Freeman handled Kei Sako and Daisuke Kon 8-4 for the second point of the match.  In the third doubles slot, Robert Gair and Jeffrey Mason won 8-3 over Eric Wade and Xavier Johnson staking the Trailblazers to an early 3-0 lead.

The home team kept up the momentum in singles play.  Goldsmith defeated Sako 6-1, 6-2 in the top singles slot while Wabshinak earned his second point blanking Wade 6-0, 6-0.  Nygard bested Lugris 6-4, 6-2 in the third slot and Mason worked hard to defeat Dodson in the match of the day.  Mason earned the win after dropping the first set 3-6, but rallied to win the next two 6-1 and 10-8 (tiebreak).  

Gair and Jack Peterson earned the final points of the match, both in straight sets to round out the scoring.

MCLA will move on to play Colby Sawyer, the top seed in next Saturday's tournament.  The Trailblazers and Chargers will start at 11am in the NAC semifinals.
