Mahrous, Castle singles play lifts MCLA to 5-4 comeback win over Castleton in Men's Tennis

North Adams, MA- Down 4-3 to visiting Castleton University with just the fifth and sixth matches left to play, MCLA's Nick Castle and Mohamed Mahrous both earned three set victories to lift the Trailblazers to a hard fought 5-4 North Atlantic Conference win over the Spartans this afternoon.  With the win, the Trailblazers earned their third straight victory as they improved to 3-3 overall and are 2-1 in the conference.

The Spartans drop to 5-4 overall and are 2-2 in the league.

MCLA trailed 2-1 after completing the doubles matches.  Trailblazers Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman took a point as did Mohamed Mahrous and Reydel Santana.

In singles however, the Spartans mounted their rally.  They cruised to straight set wins in the second, third, and fourth singles matches to take a 4-2 lead over the Trailblazers.

MCLA's Goldsmith earned a point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Quentin Barthe in the top singles slot setting up Castle and Mahrous' heroics.

Castle was in the fifth singles slot and lost the first set 2-6 to Oskar Eriksson.  Castle would rally though and win the second set 6-4 before closing out the match 6-3 tying it up at 4-4.

Mahrous was the final match of the day.  He dropped the first set to Ethan Cameron-Vaupel 3-6, but stormed back 6-4, 6-2 to give the Trailblazers the narrow victory over the Spartans.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday when they host Rhode Island College at 3:30pm
