Tennis holds off Sage 6-3

Bennington, VT- The MCLA men's tennis team held off Sage tonight 6-3 in a non league matchup at the Bennington Tennis Center.  The Trailblazers even their mark at 5-5 before heading into the NAC playoffs on Saturday. MCLA will face Thomas on Saturday in the semifinal round.

Sage falls to 1-9 on the season.

MCLA held a 2-1 advantage after doubles.  Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman earned an 8-2 victory over Casey Fitzpatrick and Tyler Schnaible.  Trailblazers Charles Najimy and Matt Bluteau won 8-5 over Mitesh Joshi and Dan Mackey for MCLA's second point of the night.  Sage earned the final point in doubles as Mike Basile and Zaheer Ahmad defeated Mohamed Mahrous and Reydel Santana 8-5.

In singles, Goldsmith continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Fitzpatrick.  The Gators would add a pair of points in the second and third singles matches as Schnaible and Mackey earned straight set wins over Freeman and Bluteau.

The Trailblazers however, swept the final three matches.  Najimy defeated Ahmad 6-2, 6-1 and Castle won a three set match against Joshi 0-6, 7-5, 10-7.  Mohamed Mahrous earned MCLA's final point by winning 6-3, 6-2 over Vickers.
