Gawron, Higgins, and Mahrous power Mixed Tennis past NVU Johnson 7-2

Stowe, VT- Samantha Gawron, Briana Higgins, and Mohamed Mahrous all earned a pair of points as the MCLA Mixed Tennis team defeated the NVU-Johnson Badgers 7-2 this afternoon.  The Trailblazers are now 1-1 on the season while the Badgers open their 2019 campaign at 0-1.

The two teams will meet again in April once North Atlantic Conference play begins.

MCLA started well as they took the matches first two points.  Gawron teamed with Nick Castle in the second doubles slot to earn an 8-1 win over NVU's Pat Bell and Colin Campagna.  The team of Higgins and Mahrous would earn a point out of the third doubles slot with an 8-2 win of their own to put the Trailblazers in front heading into singles play.

Gawron earned her second point of the afternoon by defeating Bell in singles play 6-1, 6-1.  Mahrous, playing out of the fifth singles slot, defeated Trevor Newton 6-2, 6-2 to put the Trailblazers up 4-1, still with four matches remaining.  The Badgers earned their final point in the second singles position as John Folsom handled Castle in straight sets.

MCLA would take the final three matches however to account for the final margin.  Cal Najimy earned a hard fought point in the number one singles slot while Higgins and Mackenna Jordan each earned singles points for the Trailblazers.
