Trailblazers Fall to Ephs

The MCLA softball lost to Williams College in a tune-up for both teams before they begin their conference tournaments later this week.

Williams (28-5) broke open a close game late in game one for an 8-3 victory and controlled game two 5-0.

Williams scored a run in each of the first three frames, but MCLA countered with two in the second and one in the third and the game would remain tied until the top of the sixth.

Williams had three hits in the opening inning, the big blow an RBI double by Lexi Curt that plated Tayler Donze. MCLA starter Amanda Meczywor pitched her way out of further trouble; in fact Williams left five on base in the first three innings.

MCLA (12-20) would trail 3-1 in the bottom of third until Abigail Lucas launched a two-run homer evening the game at three.

Williams would forge ahead in the sixth and break the game open in the seventh off MCLA reliever Katelyn Henault. Henault making only her second appearance on the hill since March 21st allowed four runs on three hits, but was victimized by two errors in the inning. Kacey Cramer had the big hit in the inning, delivering a two-out two run single that scored Donze and Erica Li.

Emma Harrington picked up the win in relief for Williams and Rachel Quackenbush took the loss, also in relief.

Game two showcased Ephs ace Brooke Bovier. Bovier was dominant as she went the distance and allowed just one hit, while striking out ten in a game that was called after six innings due to darkness.
Meczywor started game two as well for the Trailblazers and was solid allowing four earned, Meczywor through a complete game as well.

Williams led 1-0 in the top of the fourth when Curt led off the inning with a single and Priscella Pino followed with a double, putting two on with nobody out. Curt scored on an error by Lucas and Pino would score on a Bovier single to center. Williams would tack on one more in the inning and Bovier would do the rest.

MCLA's lone hit came off the bat of Angelica Perfido.

Bovier moved to 15-3 on the season and Meczywor fell to 5-11.

Williams will take on Bowdoin Friday at 5:00 PM in the NESCAC tournament. MCLA will play at home Friday at 4:00 in the MASCAC tournament against the Framingham St./Bridgewater St. winner .
