Quackenbush named 1st Team All MASCAC, Sicinski and Perfido collect second team honors

2016 All MASCAC Softball Team

North Adams, MA- A trio of MCLA Softball seniors were honored this afternoon by being named to the All MASCAC team as voted on by the league's coaches.  Rachel Quackenbush was named a first team selection off the mound, while Jenn Sicinski and Angelica Perfido were second team choices at catcher and second base respectively.

Sydney Despres of Worcester State was the conference's player of the year, while Kelly McCarthy of Bridgewater State was the pitcher of the year.  Kaylee Sylvestre of Fitchburg is the MASCAC's top rookie and Colleen Bannister of Westfield State was the Champions Choice coach of the year.

Quackenbush was voted to the conference's first team for the fourth consecutive season.  In 2016, she leads the conference in strikeouts (137) and is second in ERA (1.92).  Quackenbush is the all time strikeout king at MCLA and is the only repeat selection among the trio of players.  She earned three victories within the MASCAC this season and will look to lead the Trailblazers into the postseason when they begin play tomorrow at Westfield.

Perfido batted .348 during the regular season for MCLA as the starting second baseman.  Her 31 hits were good for third on the roster and she's scored 20 runs this season for the Trailblazers.  Perfido is a threat on the bases after stealing 13 bags which is also leading the conference.  The honor marks the first time Perfido has been recognized by the league.

Sicinski was a mainstay behind the plate for the Trialblazers and the honor is the first for the senior.  She was the primary battery mate for Quackenbush as the duo have been a primary reason for MCLA qualifying for postseason play.  Her best offensive showing was a 2-3 showing in a win over Mass. Maritime in which she scored twice and drove in a run.

The Trailblazers will be the sixth seed in this week's MASCAC playoffs and will open defense of their 2015 championship at Westfield tomorrow.
