Strong second half pushes MCLA into WNEC tip off finals

Springfield, MA- Led by Jen Wehner's 16 points and 18 boards, MCLA defeated MIT in the opening round of the WNEC tip off classic 58-40.  With the win, MCLA moves to 2-0 and will face the host team, Western New England tomorrow at 3pm.  WNEC defeated Wilkes (PA) earlier this evening.

The Trailblazers had a five-point lead at halftime (24-19) and held a 35-30 advantage before breaking the game open with a 15-0 run.

Junior guard Alie Dobrovoic (Little Falls, NY) also had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds along with three assists. Senior guard Molly Broda (Southampton, MA) added nine points and junior forward Olivia McMullen (Broadalbin, NY) 10 rebounds.

MCLA (2-0) shot 37.5% from the field and held a commanding 61-28 advantage in rebounding. 

MIT (0-2) struggled from the field making only 25.4% of its shots.  Freshman guard Tamara Pena (Aliso Viejo, CA) led the Engineers with eight points while junior guard Marissa Good (Escondido, CA) chipped-in with seven points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Lauren Sascha-Burton (Seattle, WA) had six points and five rebounds.
