Women's Hoop nets first win with 71-57 triumph over Daniel Webster

Nashua, NH- The MCLA women's basketball team outscored Daniel Webster 23-4 in the opening period en route to cruising past the Eagles 71-57 to earn their first win of the young season.  The Trailblazers are now 1-2 on the season while the Eagles drop their second straight to start the season and are 0-2.

MCLA placed four players in double figures led by freshman Courtney Pingelski's team best 15 points.  Ashley Clawson added 12 points, while Courtney McLaughlin and Courtney Durivage each ended with 11.

In the opening quarter, MCLA led 10-4 before ending the quarter on a 14-0 spurt to open up a sizable lead.  McLaughlin had six points in the spurt as the Trailblazer defense held the Eagles scoreless as they went 0-8 from the floor and committed 7 turnovers in that decisive stretch.

The Eagles would outscore MCLA 25-13 in the second quarter and trailed just 36-29 at the half.  MCLA would put the game away in the third quarter by outscoring the hosts 21-10 to surge ahead 57-39 heading into the fourth.  The Trailblazers were never threatened in the quarter and cruised home.

Kayla Hotaling had a solid floor game collecting 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Durivage just missed a double double by notching 9 caroms.

For the hosts, they were paced by Ashley England's game high 25 points which including three triples.  Desiree McGee was the only other Eagle in double figures with 12.

MCLA shot 39% in the win and overcame 22 turnovers.  The Trailblazers turned DWC over 29 times in the game and held them to just 31% from the floor.

The Trailblazers will look to even their mark on Saturday when they host Cobleskill at 4pm in their home opener.
