Women's Basketball clamps down on Lasell and pulls away to 55-36 non conference victory

North Adams, MA- The MCLA women's basketball team clamped down on visiting Lasell College holding the Lasers to just one field goal in the final period as the Trailblazers pulled away to a 55-36 non conference win.  The Trailblazers are now 3-2 on the season while the Lasers drop to 2-3.

Courtney McLaughlin scored 16 points to lead all scorers and Kayla Hotaling added a double double effort of 13 points and 12 boards.  Emily Moulton added a career best 10 points for MCLA in the victory.

The Trailblazers led just 23-21 at halftime after McLaughlin drilled a three pointer in the waning seconds.  MCLA would storm out of the locker room and jump out to a 29-21 lead on the heels of Hotaling's back to back hoops.  The Lasers would eventually tie the game at 32-32, however MCLA would pull away at the end of the quarter using an 11-1 spurt to extend to a 43-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

From there, the MCLA defense proved too much as they held Lasell to just 1-11 shooting in the quarter and forced 6 turnovers.  Offensively, Moulton and Hotaling did the damage late to help MCLA pull away.

McLaughlin was just 5-18 from the floor for her 16 points.  She added 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Hotaling was 5-12 and scored 12 of her points after halftime.  She also collected 3 assists and a pair of steals.  Moulton was 5-9 from the floor to end with 10 points.  MCLA shot a solid 13-27 in the closing half.

Lasell was paced by Morgan Church's team high 11 points.  Liz Bougie added 6 points but had 8 rebounds.  The Lasers shot just 27% from the floor in the loss and couldn't overcome 16 turnovers.

MCLA will be on the road Wednesday night when they take on Utica College at 6pm.
