Women's Basketball handles SVC 65-29

North Adams, MA- Eleven different Trailblazers broke into the scoring column as the MCLA Women's Basketball team jumped out to a 17-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the visiting Southern Vermont Mountaineers 65-29 in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.  MCLA evens their mark at 3-3 on the season while the Mountaineers fall to 1-6 on the season.

Three Trailblazers ended with 10 points apiece.  Emily Moulton scored her 10 points on 4-8 shooting and the senior grabbed a team high 9 boards.  Courtney Pingelski and Sam Gawron each added 10 points with Pingelski collecting 6 steals as well.

The Trailblazers shot out to the early 17-0 lead over the opening eight minutes.  Gawron and Moulton combined for 13 of those points during the early run as MCLA held SVC scoreless until Maddy Main finally converted a layup with just 1:55 left in the first quarter.  MCLA eventually led 17-2 at the end of the quarter.

MCLA kept up the pressure on SVC as they took a commanding 31-5 halftime lead.  The Trailblazers held the Mountaineers to just 10% shooting (2-21) while forcing them into 18 turnovers.

The Trailblazers were never threatened the rest of the way as they cruised in the second half to the victory.

Main led all scorers with a game high 16 point effort.  She completed the double double with 14 rebounds and added 4 blocked shots.  She was the lone Mountaineer in double figures.

Moulton added 6 blocked shots to her stat line while Erika Ryan came off the bench to score 8 points and grab 8 boards for MCLA.  

SVC finished shooting just 23% from the floor and turned the ball over 28 times.  MCLA shot just 34% in the win and overcame 16 turnovers of their own.

The Trailblazers are off until Tuesday when they host Keene State in another non conference game.  SVC opens up NECC play tomorrow with a road tilt at Newbury at 1:00pm.
