Women's Basketball upended by Fitchburg 65-49

North Adams, MA- Fitchburg State outscored MCLA 17-5 in the third quarter as they ran past the MCLA Trailblazers 65-49 in MASCAC women's basketball action in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.  The Falcons improve to 4-10 overall, but are now 2-0 in the MASCAC.  MCLA drops to 2-10 overall and is now 0-2 in the league.

Angelina Marazzi led all scorers with 19 points.  The senior pulled down 9 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and collected 2 steals in the win.  Payton Holmes added 12 points while Lindsay McDonald notched 12 off the bench.  Catherine Coppinger scored just 4 points, but grabbed 13 rebounds.

In the opening half of play, MCLA started hot jumping out to an 8-2 lead.  Kylah Langston scored the first five points for MCLA.  Fitchburg eventually knotted things up at 14-14 after one quarter of play.  Fitchburg would take the lead in the second quarter and opened up a 32-25 lead after a nice pass from Angelina Marazzi to Lindsay McDonald on a pick and roll with just over a minute until halftime.  MCLA would answer on a Langston drive to the hoop and the Falcons led 32-27 at halftime.

Neither team shot particularly well in the opening half as MCLA checked in at 37% while the Falcons were at 36%.  Langston scored 8 first half points to lead MCLA while Marazzi and McDonald each had 8 for the Falcons.

In the second half, it was all Falcons.  They shot just 33% in the third quarter, but their defense held MCLA to just one field goal as they outscored the Trailblazers 17-5 in the period to build a 49-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Trailblazers would cut the deficit to ten points, but could not get any closer.

MCLA was paced by Langston's team best 15 point night.  Erika Ryan continued her solid play with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots.  Hannah Mazzeo chipped in with 11 points and 8 boards.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday night when they host Salem State at 5:30pm.  The Falcons will travel to Westfield State.
