Sangiovanni, Maloney lead Women's Soccer to first win of season, 2-0 over Cobleskill

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team outshot visiting Cobleskill 39-1 and Aleah Sangiovanni and Caitlyn Maloney netted goals as the Trailblazers earned their first win of 2017 with a resounding 2-0 win over the Tigers.  The Trailblazers are now 1-8 on the season while Cobleskill is still in search of their first win at 0-9.

MCLA controlled play throughout as they held Cobleskill without a shot in the opening half.  In the 23rd minute, the Trailblazer offense finally broke through.  Brittany Whitford sent a through ball up the middle that found Sangiovanni behind the defense.  She would slip a shot into the lower right corner to make it 1-0 in favor of the hosts.  The goal was her second of the season.  The score would remain that way until halftime as MCLA couldn't take advantage of their opportunities.

In the second half, MCLA continued their onslaught, however the score remained 1-0 for much of the half.  Cobleskill had a tremendous chance with 15 minutes left to play when MCLA was whistled for a foul deep in their own end.  The lone Cobleskill shot was blocked however, preserving the lead for the Trailblazers.

MCLA would add to the lead in the 81st minute when Maloney would convert.  She would get behind the defense and head the ball past Cobleskill keeper Samantha Springstead making it 2-0.  The Trailblazers weren't threatened over the final nine minutes of play.

Megan Richardson earned the win and combined with Gaby Cilibrisi on the shutout.  Neither had to make a save for MCLA.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they return to MASCAC play hosting Framingham State.
