Women's Soccer comes up short with 1-0 loss to Bluejays

Women's Soccer comes up short with 1-0 loss to Bluejays

North Adams, MA- University of St. Joseph (CT) first year forward Maxine Muscatello scored the only goal in the 69th minute to lift the Bluejays past the MCLA Trailblazers 1-0 in a non league matchup at Shewcraft Field.  The Bluejays remain perfect on the season at 3-0 while the Trailblazers dip to 0-2.

Both teams had chances in the opening half of play to get into the scoring column, but neither team could find the back of the net.  The Bluejays held a sizable 13-3 shot edge in the opening 45 minutes, but the game remained 0-0 into halftime.

In the second half, USJ continued to control possession.  They outshot MCLA 14-4 in the closing half with Muscatello's heroics providing the lone goal.  She would corral a loose ball at the top of the Trailblazer box and loft a high arching shot into the upper right corner beating the outstretched arms of Megan Richardson to give the visitors the lead.  The marker was her team leading third goal of the season.

MCLA had a golden opportunity seven minutes earlier when Hannah Van De Water took a cross from Maddie Gibney but hit the crossbar.  The Bluejays were able to eventually clear the ball and keep the game scoreless at the time.

The Trailblazers couldn't muster up enough offense over the final twenty minutes of play to pull even.

The duo of Andrea Pezzullo and Julia Annecchiarico (1-0) combined for the shutout.  Pezzullo collected three saves in the first half while Annecchiarico stopped one.

MCLA's Richardson (0-2) stopped ten shots in defeat.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Sage for a 5pm kickoff.
