Sfakianaki earns singles win but Trailblazers fall to Husson 8-1

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's tennis team defeated the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Bangor High School.

The Eagles improved to 6-2 (5-1 NAC) as the Trailblazers fell to 3-5 (3-3 NAC).

In double actions, Sarah Smith and Charlotte Bednarz took down Mariza Spakianaki and Sam Gawron on the one line, 8-4. In number two doubles, Liz Adley and Meridith Blessard defeated Briana Higgins and Ashley Juskhas, 8-3. Marisa Brown and Sam Dubay cruised by Katherine Grill and Lauren Kexel, 8-2, on the third line.

Spakianaki earned the Trailblazers lone victory in number one singles play as she won 6-0, 6-4 over Blessard. The Eagles won the remaining matches as Smith triumphed with an 6-4, 6-4 victory, Bednarz cruised to an 6-2, 6-3 win, Brown captured an 6-1, 6-1 victory, Adley took down Grill 6-0, 6-1, and Dubay rounded out the Eagles' win with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

MCLA will face Thomas tomorrow with a NAC playoff berth on the line.
