Volleyball sweeps tri match with Bay Path and Becker as Lechler records 1,000th career assist

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Volleyball program swept a pair of matches this afternoon to improve to 6-4 overall with a 3-0 win over Bay Path in the opener and a hard fought 3-2 win over Becker in the nightcap.  Becker defeated Bay Path in the neutral contest.

MCLA took the opener over the Wildcats in convincing fashion.  The Trailblazers took the first set 25-20 and the second 25-19.  They would close out the match with a 25-16 third set victory.

Ahna Schlaefer had a season best 8 kills in the win for MCLA.  Sara LaFreniere added 6 kills and 10 digs for the hosts.  Madison Benlien collected 17 digs to lead the defense while Mackenna Jordan and Tessa Sestito added 14 and 12 respectively.  Beatrice Lechler notched 20 assists for MCLA.

Shanikqua Thompson had 5 kills to lead Bay Path.  Joanne Nazario added 11 digs.

In the nightcap, MCLA took the opening set 25-18 before Becker squared the match with a 25-22 second set victory.  MCLA took the third set 25-21, but the Hawks extended the match with a 25-16 fourth set win.  MCLA closed out the win with a hard fought 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set.

Alyssa Keegan collected 13 kills for MCLA while LaFreniere added 11.  Laiken Cornwell-L'Hote added 10.  Mackenna Jordan had a team best 38 digs while Tessa Sestito added 32 digs and 20 assists.  Lechler added 19 assists and 17 digs.

In the contest, Lechler collected her 1,000th career assist in a Trailblazer uniform joining the grand club.

MCLA is off until Wednesday night when they host New England College at 6pm.
