NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Assistant Dean of Athletics and Recreation Laura Mooney recently announced the hiring of Christopher Phillips as the department’s new Assistant Communication Director.

Said Director Mooney, “Chris was diligent in his pursuit of this position, and we are confident that his experience and passion for collegiate athletics will serve to both enrich our department and enhance the experiences of our student-athletes.”

Phillips comes to MCLA after workinging in the sports information department at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. He also earned a Master of Science in Sports and Event Management from California University of Pennsylvania (Now PennWest – California) in 2008. As an undergraduate student, he interned for the Lowell Spinners of the New York Penn League and with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

After graduating from CalU, he volunteered with the UMass Athletics media relations office, aiding with stats for the football, hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball teams. In 2011, he became a full member of the UMass football stat crew and joined the basketball stat crew the following year.

Chris will handle game administration duties, marketing and promotion of MCLA’s athletic programs, as well as statistical and game reporting.

The start of his time with the Trailblazers will mark a bit of a return home for Chris, who grew up in the Berkshires in Pittsfield before leaving for UMass. Chris lives in West Springfield with his wife, Melissa, and son Camden.
