SALEM, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team's 2024 season came to an end this afternoon with a pair of losses against MASCAC foe Salem State. The Vikings wrapped up a three-game sweep of the Trailblazers, scoring 24 runs on 25 hits across the two games, while freshman pitcher Cam Fisher kept his record clean, picking up his sixth win of the year.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Game #1
    • The Trailblazers continued their pattern of being caught up by the opponent's big inning, setting the bar to come back too high. Already ahead 1-0 through three and a half innings, Salem State put up their first several multi-run innings throughout the day, scoring five runs on four hits in the fourth inning. The hosts then added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.
    • MCLA mounted a mini rally in the top of the sixth, scoring a pair of two-out runs on three hits. Justin Hernandez started things with a one-out single down the right-field line and moved to second on a ground out by Ty Mazzeo. Matt Castillo then brought Hernandez home with another single down the right-field line. Josh Bissaillon then picked up his ninth RBI of the season with a double into the left-centerfield gap.
    • The Vikings' Brock Pare scattered five hits over six and a third innings, allowing two runs and striking out four to pick up his fourth win to improve to 4-3. Nate Morse took the loss to drop his season record to 1-7.
  • Game #2
    • The Viking bats stayed hot in the second game, scoring in five of their six offensive frames, including multi-run innings in four.
    • Matt Damon led the Trailblazers' offense with a pair of singles.
    • Salem's Cam Fisher went five shutout innings, allowing only four hits and striking out three to up his season record to 6-0. Bryan Rosario pitched a season-high three and a third innings in his first start of the season for MCLA, with his record falling to 0-1.
